AN EARLY PORTRAIT

A very telling photograph of David Lloyd George as he begins his political career in the House of Commons. The photographer, John Thomas, was from the Lampeter area but lived and worked from Liverpool. As a travelling professional photographer he took most of his portraits in the open air so that he had enough light for his work. When printing the image as a carte-de-visite or cabinet photograph for sale he would concentrate on the head and shoulders of the sitter and not reproduce the entire image.

A LATER PORTRAIT

The work of an unidentified photographer working for a Government Department.
The photographer uses light to conjure up a magical image of one known as "The Welsh Wizard."
