The Black Book of Carmarthen returns to the town

A replica copy of The Black Book of Carmarthen, one of the most famous manuscripts in Wales, was the main focus of workshops held at Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin from May 16-20. Every pupil in years 7 and 8 had the opportunity to learn more about this iconic manuscript under the expert guidance of The National Library of Wales Education Service. As part of the workshops they also learnt about how manuscripts were created in the Middle Ages, and developed their research and interpretation skills using other items from The National Library of Wales collections.

Mr. Dorian Williams, The Headteacher of Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin said:

“It is fantastic that items from the unique and excellent collections held at The National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth get to travel to other parts of Wales. This very special manuscript is one of Wales’ treasures, and Ysgol Bro Myrddin is pleased to see the Black Book in the school, and young people from the Carmarthen area using it to learn more about their history and culture.”
