Re-launching the Health and Well-being Forum

In my last two blogs (22 January & 3 March) I discussed two of the Human Resources Unit’s key projects for the 2011-12 financial year. A further focus area during that time will be the re-launch of the Health and Well-being Forum that will be responsible for the introduction and promotion of the Library’s revised Health and Well-being agenda.

The overall aim of the Forum is to develop initiatives co-ordinated with other HR policies that promote a healthy and supportive working environment for staff. What is the benefit to the Library you might ask? The answer is quite simple; if our staff are in a good state of health and well-being, this must surely contribute to increased engagement and successful performance.

So what will the Forum do? Annwen Isaac, Human Resources Officer, will chair the Forum and an initial meeting will take place during the next few weeks to discuss and agree its agenda for the forthcoming year. This will include arranging some fun and exciting initiatives for staff to participate in on a voluntary basis throughout the year to improve health and well-being across the Library.

The agenda will also consider the possibility of aiming to gain the Corporate Health Standard, run by the Welsh Assembly Government, initially at bronze level for the Library. The Standard is a quality mark for workplace health promotion in Wales and is presented in bronze, silver, gold and platinum categories to public, private and third sector organisations implementing initiatives to promote staff health and well-being. Like other workplace quality initiatives, it is a progressive programme and organisations are reassessed every three years.

Further information regarding the Health and Well-being Forum will follow in due course and we hope that staff will join us in supporting its work.
