A contribution that will last for generations

The Library has benefited from legacies throughout its history, from the gifts left by one of our founders Sir John Williams to the recent Kyffin bequest.  These magnificent bequests have provided valuable additions to our collections, however they are not the be all and end all of the legacies we have received.  Over the years we have received many monetary bequests ranging from a few hundred pounds upwards and this money has enabled us to carry out our work including funding purchases of items and running projects such as the Artist in Residence Scheme.

As the Legacy Manager I get asked about the benefits of leaving a bequest to the Library.  Listed below are just a few of the reasons I tend to give as an answer:

  • Leaving a gift in your Will to the Library can make a real difference and all gifts we receive, large and small are greatly appreciated.
  • Leaving a legacy can represent a level of generosity that may not be possible in a donors lifetime.
  • The Library is a registered charity so you won’t have to pay inheritance tax on your gift.  This helps not just us as the charity but can also be used to reduce the inheritance tax burden on other beneficiaries of your Will.
  • By leaving a gift to us you have the satisfaction of knowing that your money will be used to keep the history of Wales alive for future generations.

Further information on leaving a gift in your Will can be found on our legacies webpage or if you feel like making a more immediate gift to the Library you can look at our regular giving leaflet or pop along to our online donation page.
