On the 5th of December, on a cold and frosty Sunday morning Culturenet Cymru staff travelled to Felin-fach Memorial Hall to support Ceredigion Young Farmer’s Club to begin the task of recording the history of the movement in the county. Ceredigion YFC was established 70 years ago and as part of the celebrations all past and present clubs in the county are given the opportunity to contribute their own archive to the People’s Collection Wales website. Twelve clubs attended the first event and over 160 photographs were scanned. The items ranged from whole club photographs to events such as the county rally, public speaking competitions and numerous other competitions such as restoring old farm machinery shown below. These two photographs form part of Lledrod Young Farmers Club’s archive and show members restoring an old threshing machine.
Club members recorded information relating to the photographs from contributors on the day and the collection will be uploaded onto the People’s Collection Wales website in the new year. One club that has already uploaded content is Brynherbert YFC. Brynherbert is one of the smallest clubs in the county but has a vast collection of photographs that retell the story of the the club’s heyday in the 70s and 80s. Anyone with further information relating to the photographs are welcome to add a comment below any of the images. The next scanning day will be held on Sunday, 23rd of January at Theatr Felin-fach.
