Learning and Development

Here goes – final blog for the time being!

The next year will mean a re-vamp for our Library and Information NVQ’s – which will mean that we in the NLW will have to adapt and create changes to accommodate the new qualifications. Thankfully Coleg Llandrillo have been a great help in explaining the new qualifications to me and I now what is expected of the NLW and more importantly myself! September 2011 shall see the introduction of LAIS (Library, Archives and Information Services) – which will still have 2 levels but will now be known as the Certificate (formally Level 2) which is a 30 credit course and Diploma (formally Level 3) which is a 45 credit course. The good news is for those completing the Certificate and wanting to go to your Diploma you can carry 21 credits with you, meaning that there are only a further 24 credits to complete. The biggest change in the Library will be the availability of a course which includes Archives, which has been a very sought after course here in the Library.

This week has also proved to be a breakthrough with our new Self Service HR / Training System – with the pilot proving to be a success and our proposed roll out date being very possible.

Competencies are also moving along nicely with results from our pilot and advice from other organisations being extremely beneficial. This will hopefully proceed well over the next few weeks.

With a challenging year ahead I bid the blog farewell….. until the next time!?

p.s. I shall look forward to visiting the NLW stand in the Royal Welsh next week!
