The Urdd Eisteddfod in Llanerchaeron this year was a great success and The National Library Education sector were present of course. Hundreds of people of all ages came to see what the National Library had to offer on the Maes. The main attraction on our stand was the White Book of Rhydderch. This is one of the most notable and celebrated manuscripts in the National Library of Wales and also has very strong local connections. To interest the younger generation on the Maes we had prepared images for them to colour which when finished were put on display. Also, we were very busy making badges. They had an opportunity to make a badge with the first letter of their name in a similar format to illustrations found in the manuscript. By the end of the week the competitors were older and therefore they had a chance to learn about the manuscript and its local connections and also what the Library has to offer them by taking part in a research workshop. Again, this was a very popular activity as they liked competing against one another.
It’s now time to reflect over a very successful week for Ceredigion and the National Library of Wales and look forward to next years event.
