What an amazing archive! Like many people I was familiar with Kyffin’s work as an artist but knew little about the man himself. His character really shines through in this archive. Before I began working on the papers they’d been partially sorted and it’s taken quite a while to put all the individual items – many of them small pieces of paper – in order. Many bundles accumulated years ago have probably not seen the light of day for ages. The exciting part is not knowing what I might come across each day – in amongst a small box of folded miscellaneous papers belonging to his mother, I found this captivating photo of Kyffin rowing a boat as a young boy.
