Since July 2008 I have been cataloguing the art works in the Sir Kyffin Williams bequest. I must confess that personally I am a great fan of his work and was lucky to have visited him in his studio, and have often enjoyed seeing his works in exhibitions. Therefore to be able to get to know intimately and ‘handle’ a wide selection of his work in a variety of media and period is to me a real treat. These works comprise drawings (on paper), oils on canvas, lino prints and commercial prints, and are mainly of Welsh landscapes, but also include portraits, still lifes, studies of farmers, dogs and other animals, together with works from his travels abroad.
I am working through this collection of art works, examining each item individually, in order to provide a description for the Library’s online catalogue, where in future an image of an item, together with its description, will be available. Where possible I try to identify the subject or location of the work, and also provide an estimated date for its execution. I am cataloguing in addition, a wide range of art items that Kyffin had collected, which came with the bequest.
