In May, the Library lent a number of important medieval manuscripts to an exhibition at Grosvenor Museum, Chester.
The exhibition, ‘Discover Medieval Chester’, is part of a wider project funded by the AHRC with the aim ‘to promote the vibrant cultural heritage of medieval Chester as a multi-cultural, multi-lingual city, drawing together material, textual and visual culture and forging connections between the medieval past and the modern urban environment today’. It looks at life in a medieval city, through personal everyday items, alongside an array of magnificent documents which paint a picture of Chester, its visitors and citizens. Amongst the items lent by the Library is ‘The Antichrist’, a 15th century manuscript from the Chester cycle of miracle plays. You can also see poems of the Welsh, who reflect on the men of Chester and their weak beer.
The exhibition is on until 22nd September, after which will tour to Wrexham Museum.
