Archives and Records Council Wales
NEWS
The questionnaire for the second ICT Survey of Museums and
Archives is now available at:
http://www.peoplesnetwork.gov.uk/content/ictsurvey.asp.
The first survey was carried out in 2001 to establish a baseline
UK-wide picture of the uptake and development of ICT
infrastructure, content and skills in museums and archives.
This second questionnaire builds on the first to create a
more detailed picture of how technology is used to deliver
services to users. The figures produced by this survey will
provide evidence for lobbying for further investment in ICT
in the sector.
Archives Council Wales has been invited to participate in
the Review of the National Monuments Record (England).
More details, together with a copy of the consultation
paper, can be found at:
http://www.nmrreview.org/. The
closing date for the consultation is 4 February 2004.
It is foreseen that the report will be launched sometime
in March 2004. There will be an additional meeting of
the Taskforce in January to discuss the report. An insight
into the conclusions and recommendations of the report will
be circulated to key stakeholders, including ACW, in
December. The report will deal with matters such as:
outreach and interpretation, capacity building, domain
leadership and a training framework. The UK Archives
Network will be at the centre of the recommendations.
Better by Design: the 2004 Welsh Library and Information
Conference will be held at Hotel Metropole, Llandrindod Wells
on 11 March 2004 and its programme includes a session for
archivists: Stuart Davies, Resource, 'The conclusions and
recommendations of the Archives Taskforce'; Hywel Roberts,
'The Archives Taskforce and Wales'; and Janice Taylor,
North West Archive Development Officer, 'Implementing and
reviewing the North West Regional Archives Strategy'. Booking
forms will be available shortly.
