1Minutes of the last meeting
The minutes of the last meeting held on 7 March 1997 were confirmed.

2Matters arising from the minutes
2.1Local Government Reorganisation
2.1.1Carmarthen: PRO to ask the authority about progress on the HLF bid.
2.1.2Anglesey: PRO still awaiting the county council's plans for a new building.
2.1.3Cardiff: nothing further to report. SE was congratulated on her appointment as county archivist.

2.2HMC Mapping Project
The report had been submitted before the general election and ACW hoped that the new administration would be seen to act on it.

2.3Lottery Case Officer
AM gave the latest news about this post.

2.4Welsh Local Government Association
There was nothing further to report.

2.5Robert Chell's Survey
Robert Chell had explained that his survey was not like HMC's. The work on his survey had not yet been completed. Concern was expressed about the increase in the number of questionnaires sent out to archivists.

2.6Interdepartmental Archives Committee
AM reported on the Committee's discussions. One of the matters it had discussed at its last meeting was a Record Office for Wales.

2.7Circulation
GJ had written to ADC without reply and there had been no obvious improvement in the circulation of ACW news around the University's archivists.

3Networking
ACW's website had been launched earlier that day. The National Library was thanked for all its work in establishing it. It was decided to submit an application to include a link to the ACW site in the pages of Network Wales and to suggest its inclusion under the headings of (1) Government: Archives and (2) Arts and Culture: Archives. JWW said that the Scoping Study would begin on 1 August and that the intention was to complete it by the end of September. It was decided to call a meeting of the sub-committee in October.

4The Consortium of Welsh Library and Information Services
KM had attended the CWLIS meeting at DILS on 19 March. It was decided to subscribe to the Consortium to ensure archival representation on its executive committee. KM was nominated to represent ACW.

5Public Record Office for Wales
The document prepared by GJ and KM was discussed. At the end of the discussion the feeling was that a gradual development based on the management of the records of the Assembly would best suit a new archival body of this kind. It was decided to prepare a report to be presented to the Secretary of State in November.

6Gregynog Meeting
The arrangements for the meeting of 13 September 1997 were discussed. ALlH said that Beth Thomas was unable to attend. GJ and RW agreed to find a substitute.

7Annual Report
GJ presented a draft of the annual report and invited the members to send amendments and corrections. It was intended that the final report should be produced in time for the next meeting.

8Objectives 1997-1998
It was agreed to set four objectives: networking; the Gregynog meeting; the Welsh Record Office; monitoring legislation for the Assembly. It was decided to allow KM and GJ to draft the wording of the objectives.

9Subscriptions
GJ agreed to issue an invoice to each member.

10Annual Conference of the Society of Archivists 2001
RW had raised with the Society's officials the possibility of holding the annual conference in Aberystwyth in 2001 and GJ had agreed to coordinate the arrangements.

11NCA Meeting
GJ reported on the meeting of the NCA on 15 April 1997. He drew attention to two subjects in particular: the Archives Policy for the UK; and the way the NCA is run.

12Next meeting
Wednesday, 12 November 1997, 11.00 (Subsequently changed to 19 November 1997).
