The National Library of Wales offers a vast amount of sources and facilities for those researching their family history. The majority of the material can be accessed in the South Reading Room.
This section is intended to give a brief overview of some of our more popular collections and is by no means an exhaustive list of sources available within the Library. It is a 'Step by Step' guide on 'How to get started with your family tree.'
If you are unable to visit the Library in person you may wish to use the enquiries service or for more complex and lengthy research use the services of an Independent Researcher.
For those able to visit us and wishing to make the most of their time and the facilities it would be worth enrolling on one of the Information Sessions.
The Library subscribes to Ancestry and Findmypast online resources for family history, but these are only available with the Library reading rooms.
findmypast.co.uk: Free access to Findmypast within the South Reading Room only.
Ancestry: Free access to worldwide sources for family history within the Library reading rooms only.
