This exhibition is a means of conveying the long history of protests in Wales. The 19th century became particularly turbulent due to the economic depression and the industrial revolution. The Rebecca Riots and the Tithe War came to the fore in agricultural areas while the Chartists caused havoc in industrial towns. Heated disputes between workers and employers took place in the slate quarries of the north and the coal mines of south Wales.
The 20th century saw the Suffragettes fighting for equal rights for women while conscientious objectors opposed the World Wars. Nationalism became important to many Welsh people through the growth of Plaid Cymru and the Welsh Language Society, campaigning for the future of the Welsh language.
