The Wales Portrait Award is a new biennial event to promote the art of Portrait Painting in Wales with an aim to encourage all artists to develop this theme within their work. The Exhibition is organised by Denbighshire Arts Service (Denbighshire County Council) and benefits from a partnership with Bodelwyddan Castle, The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, St David’s Hall, Cardiff and the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum, Birkenhead.
Entries have been encouraged by painters of any age living, working or born in Wales, or from any artist who has depicted a Welsh subject. The competition was judged from original paintings and drawings, with the human figure predominant. The judges have selected 52 portraits to exhibit from over 200 entries.
