Readathon - 12 Hours Of Non-Stop Reading!

Fri, 23 Feb 07 17:34:00

As part of the celebrations for the international World Book Day, staff at The National Library of Wales (and some of her most faithful readers) will hold a Readathon on Monday 26 February.

Commencing at 8.00am and finishing at 8.00pm, the 12 hour session will include readings from the treasure-trove of books and publications in The National Library's collection. As well as readings in Welsh and English, there will also be readings in some of the other languages spoken by members of the Library's staff, including French, Afrikaans, German, Chinese and Irish.

The Readathon will be held at the Drwm auditorium in the Library and will be open to members of the public. As well as being an opportunity to raise awareness of the breadth of the Library's collections among the public, it will also be an event to raise money and collect books for the charity Book Aid International.

The event is organised by the Library's Staff Association and is part of the Library's own centenary celebrations - the actual centenary of the Library is on 19 March a few weeks later.

'The National Library of Wales includes almost 5 million books so in a way every day is a book day for us. However, this year, especially as it's the Library's centenary year, the Staff Association decided to hold its first ever Readathon. We look forward to welcoming members of the public to the event - it will be a good day for people who enjoy books ... of all sorts!' said Ceri Skinner, Secretary of the Library's Staff Association.
