International Praise for NLW Game

Wed, 27 Jun 07 12:28:00

On Friday June 29 The National Library of Wales will release an exciting new computer game called Nanw’s Great Adventure. The aim of the game is to help a character called Nanw to find 7 of the Library’s treasures that have been hidden by her mischievous friends, and return these to the Librarian.

The first treasure is The Black Book of Carmarthen, and if they can find and return it they will learn something about its content before moving on to the next item. Nanw will however face a number of obstacles before being able to retrieve the item, and must be quick because the clock is ticking!

By finding special passes Nanw can open doors, but she must use the pass of the right colour, and picking up books on the way will earn bonus points. Nanw can travel through the Library, the gardens, hidden caves, to the beach, and to the secret vaults of The National Library to search for items. Players who score well can also add their names to the High Score Table.

To make things easier for those not familiar with video games Nanw offers some hidden advice and tips.

Owen Llywelyn, Senior Education Officer at The National Library of Wales said:

“This game is an interesting and lively way of learning about the importance to Wales of The Black Book and the other treasures, and it has received high praise from web developers, teachers and other educators, and most importantly, from young people who have enjoyed playing it. It has also been popular with people in other countries that have helped with its testing, and will receive a lot of attention through websites like 24 Hour Museum.”

On Friday Nanw’s Great Adventure will be named game of the week by the www.24hourmuseum.org.uk website, and an item on the front page of the Show me site on 24hourmuseum www.show.me.uk will promote the game and the items it contains.
