Hello Wrexham!

On 11 November 2010, National Library of Wales President, Dafydd Wigley will host an evening of talks and presentations at the Guildhall in Wrexham. The evening is a culmination of a series of events by the Library in Wrexham, held in conjunction with Wrexham County Borough Council and the local community.

Although the Library has held annual one-day events outside Aberystwyth in the past, this year it’s building on its new strategy of organising a series of events over 2 months.

The Librarian of the National Library of Wales, Andrew Green said:

‘The National Library of Wales is the Library for all people in Wales and it’s very important and exciting for us to travel out of Aberystwyth and go to every part of Wales. We are very glad that Wrexham, a town that has been so important in Welsh history, has been our home for the last two months’

During the evening, the Library’s Education Department and the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales will give a presentation about their work and show a compilation of local films. Culturenet Cymru will show the local treasures that came to their workshops held at Llay, where local people were asked ‘What’s in your attic?’

To close the evening, an opening and reception of Old Photos of Wrexham exhibition will be held at Wrexham Library. The National Library of Wales’s extensive collections present a clear picture of community and industrial life in Wrexham and north-east Wales. The photographic archive, together with printed ephemera, present a comprehensive view of everyday life in the region, encompassing transport, work, characters, leisure, sport and entertainment.
