A film project between The National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales and Coleg Ceredigion, Aberystwyth has been awarded the Cultural Olympiad Inspire Mark. This prestigious award recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the London 2012 Games.
BTEC media students of Coleg Ceredigion, Aberystwyth will look at films, from The Archive's collection, which document the history of life in Wales as seen through the camera lens of amateur film makers. Then with the same professional equipment used on the Hollywood blockbuster “X-Men Origins: Wolverine ” this group of budding media professionals will edit the material into a series of short films entitled Precious Life.
This pioneering project, the brainchild of Anwen Pari Jones, Access Management and Development Officer for the Archive and Sophia Behraki, film editor and media tutor at Coleg Ceredigion, was awarded the Inspire Mark as it was inspired by the values of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Precious Life will inspire people to celebrate welsh culture and will inspire those involved to remember the past as they develop their own creative future.
Anwen Pari Jones said:
“To receive the Cultural Olympiad Inspire Mark for this project is a great honour. It’s a wonderful project, which will introduce the students to archive films. Our collections are here for all to enjoy and make use of. Hopefully this project will encourage others to see the possibilities available.”
Sophia Behraki, film editor and media tutor at Coleg Ceredigion, Aberystwyth said:
“The Archive had an open door and an open mind to our initial proposal, thanks to them the students will gain real industry experience, working with real clients and making films for a real audience.”
