Ask a Librarian

Thu, 11 Aug 11 14:18:00

Ever wanted to ask a question and get a quick, authoritative answer? If so, then the National Library of Wales’s #AskaLibrarian day will be of interest to you.

Throughout Thursday 25 August inquisitive members of the public will be able to send an online questions to the Library’s Enquiries Desk via the website’s ‘Instant Chat’ service.

‘This is a new experiment for the Library,’ said Nia Dafydd, Enquiries Unit Manager. ‘We are usually constrained to only operating the ‘Instant Chat’ service to a few hours a day because of staffing reasons, but our intention on Thursday 25 August will be for this service to be available throughout the day.’

Enquirers can ask any question about the Library’s collections which may include information about family history, local history, manuscripts, photographs, paintings, post cards, the Political Archive and Wales’s newspapers. People need only click on the ‘Instant Chat’ logo on the Library’s home page and a member of staff will be ready to talk.

‘The Library received about 8,000 enquiries a year. Among the most popular questions are enquiries relating to family history or publishing right for images but not two questions are ever the same,’ Nia added. ‘I remember once a member of the public contacting us to suggest a Welsh name for his dog!’
