‘ “I settled Wales last Thursday” – a view from the Frontier of Broadcasting’

 How has the relationship between broadcasters in Wales and London changed since Devolution? Is it time for the Welsh Government to assume greater accountability for broadcasting? Those are the questions which will be  raised by Menna Richards, OBE, former Director of BBC Wales, at this year’s Welsh Political Archive annual lecture on Friday 4 November 2011 at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Is the relationship between Wales and London, Cardiff and Westminster an ongoing process or should we accept, in the words of Lord Reith, that Wales was "settled" last Thursday?
 
‘I’ve seen at close quarters how the dynamics of broadcasting work in a big centralised organisation and how the BBC has responded to devolution in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Have we reached a point when the Welsh Government should assume greater accountability for broadcasting in Wales?’, asks Menna Richards.

Menna Richards was Director of the BBC in Wales for eleven years until March 2011. From 2009 to 2011 she was also a Director of the BBC across the UK and a member of the corporation's main operating board. She has huge experience of broadcasting and led some of the changes in the BBC in 
response to devolution.
