Due to the gale force winds this morning a large sheet which makes up part of the roof of the Third Library was damaged. The local Fire Brigade and Police were called to assess the situation. The Third Building is located at the back of the Library and is not a public space – it consists of offices and collections.
Despite damage to the roof it has now now been secured.
The Library was closed to staff and readers accessing or leaving the building for some a limited time this morning. This has now been lifted and staff and visitors are now able to leave and enter the building. However, access it limited for the Third Building.
Extra precautions are being taken to safeguard the collections in that part of the building.
