The School Curriculum

By following these exercises, pupils will be fulfilling some of the requirements stated in the document Art and design in the National Curriculum in Wales (2008). The exercises will not only develop skills across the curriculum, but will also enrich the Curriculum Cymreig, and assist pupils in gaining access to historical and contemporary Welsh art and design, enriching their creative activities.

The exercises will give pupils in Key Stage 2 the chance to experiment with and examine the methods used by other artists, craftworkers and designers, and in Key Stage 3 they will have the chance to use their knowledge about the work of other artists, craftworkers and designers to enrich and inform their work through analysis, comparison and evaluation.

The exercises are also suitable for those studying Art & Design at GCSE level, and offer the chance to fulfil some of the requirements of Art & Design 2009 WJEC Specifications, especially by looking at:

·    How ideas, feelings and meanings are interpreted and represented in images, artefacts and products;

·    How images, artefacts and products relate to social, historical, vocational and cultural contexts;

·    A variety of approaches, methods and intentions of contemporary and historical artists, craftspeople and designers from different cultures.

This section is available to download in pdf format, to be used for teaching & learning in the classroom.
