On the 1st July 2010, the author and BBC foreign correspondent David Loyn visited the Library and gave a special lecture organised by Chapters, the National Library of Wales' patron scheme. With the Drwm full to capacity, his fascinating and timely talk was entitled 'Why don't politicians learn the lessons of history?'

David has covered conflicts across the world and secured unparalleled access to the war in Afghanistan. During his 30 years as a foreign correspondent he has won major awards for both TV and radio reporting. He is one of the very few journalists to have won both of Britain's leading awards in this area, as Sony Radio Reporter of the Year and Royal Television Society Journalist of the Year.
