Another source of genealogical information which may be held by a local record office or library is the International Genealogical Index (IGI) compiled by the Genealogical Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as the Mormons. Although the index is far from complete, and may not contain the required name, it may well suggest possible areas for further searching, especially if the surname is an uncommon one.
The 1988 edition of the IGI for Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland, and the Channel Islands is available on microfiche at The National Library of Wales, but a current version can be accessed through the Familysearch website
