Tithe Maps and Apportionment Schedules

The tithe maps were produced mainly in the period 1838-1854 following the Tithe Commutation Act 1836. They show farms and dwellings on which tithe was paid.

The apportionment schedules are the keys to these maps, giving the names of the landowner and occupier of each property at the time.

Some of the maps and schedules also give details of individual field names and land use.

Other Maps

The map collection includes other materials which may be useful to the family historian for example:

  • printed and manuscript maps
  • farm and estate maps which occasionally name tenants
  • auctioneers' sale particulars

To see the tithe maps and apportionment schedules and the rest of the Map Collection you should go to the South Reading Room.
