Easel Painting Conservation Unit

A painting conservation studio has been established at the Library to provide a professional service for museums, public and private collections and individuals.

 

A full range of services relating to the conservation of easel paintings is offered including:

 

  • full conservation and restoration treatments of old master and modern paintings


  • condition survey work


  • treatment estimates


  • conservation framing


  • full written and photographic documentation


  • all aspects of collection management from initial assessments to framing


  • investigation into the condition of a work of art using scientific methods


  • written examination reports for prospective sales or purchases


  • exhibition assistance including pre- and post-loan examinations, supervision of framing and crating, and courier services


  • emergency aid in case of fire, flood or accidental damage


  • conservation work undertaken at the National Library Studio or on-site

 

 

Easel Painting Conservator

 

Jenny Williamson, the Easel Painting Conservator, gained her degree at Cambridge University and then trained in the conservation of easel paintings at the Courtauld Institute of Art. She has worked in museums and for private clients in England, Wales and India including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, London, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, The National Library of Wales and the Calcutta Tercentenary Trust.
