Confirmation of gift and sale of lands to the abbey of Strata Marcella (Ystrad Marchell) by Cadwaladr ap Hywel.
Alan, by the grace of God, bishop of Bangor, wishes it to be known that Kadwaladr son of Howel, moved by charity, for the salvation of his soul and those of his parents, has given and granted to the brothers of the cistercian Order belonging to the church of the Blessed and Ever-Virgin Mary of Estradmarhel, in perpetual and quiet alms and free from all exaction and custom, all the land from a stream called Bacho to the river called Dengum and, moreover, he has sold for fifteen marks to the same brothers for their own use the pasture-land from the river Dengum to Cumluith. But because the present age is prone and disposed to evil and attempts falsely to break whatever it seeks to extort gain for itself thereby, he confirms this gift and sale with the impression of his seal. Whosoever therefore presumes to annul or disturb this gift and sale and the confirmation of his charter is, by the authority of God and that of his own (i.e. Alan, bishop of Bangor), bound by the sentence of excommunication and barred from the threshold of the holy mother church so long as he persists in his presumption.
