Siarter Ystrad Marchell rhif 42 / Ystrad Marchell charter no. 42

Confirmation of the sale of rights in lands (listed below) by Cadwallon ap Hywel to the abbey of Strata Marcella (Ystrad Marchell).

Cadewallaunt son of Hewel has sold to the monks of Stradmarchell for eight pounds of silver, in free, quiet and everlasting possession, these lands in all their bounds and appurtenances: Pennanbacho, Deffrenmerthir, Cumlluit, Cumbuga in all its bounds, and a half of Deupiu and a half of Escoruaur, and a half of the land both in wood and plain from Arannell to Redhouoch, and Aberbredwen and Reucanesseit. He wishes that the aforesaid monks may possess all the lands and pastures, freely and quietly, well and in peace, and without any exaction or secular custom, with everlasting right, in wood, in plain, in waters, in ways, in meadows, in mills, in pastures, and in all uses and usages. He has also given and granted to the aforesaid monks, for the already-named price, all the pastures within the bounds of Arwistli, namely, from Hauren towards Powis to be possessed with everlasting right, well and in peace, freely and quietly. And because the present age is prone to evil and seeks to extort gain for itself, he has strengthened and confirmed his sale both with the impression of his seal and by the attestation of good men.
