Siarter Ystrad Marchell rhif 53 / Ystrad Marchell charter no. 53
Confirmation of the gift of lands (listed below) by Gwenwynwyn ab Owain Cyfeiliog to the abbey of Strata Marcella (Ystrad Marchell).
Wennunwen son of Owin has sold to the monks of Stradmarchell, in free and quiet and everlasting possesseion, for eighteen pounds of silver, all the land called Randir Gwiaun in all its bounds and appurtenances, both above and below the slope, in wood and plain, in meadows and pastures, and in all uses and usages. He has sold the aforesaid land to the afore-named manks on the advice and with the consent of the heirs of that land, namely Gwiaun son of Gwiaun and his sons, for they had sold a moiety of the same lands in everlasting possession to the same monks for a very worthy price. Similarly, on the advice and with the consent of the sons of Owin son of Kendelo, namely, Luelin, Griffud and Goronoy, and also of the sons of Yago, namely, Ioruerth and Aun, the other miety of the land was sold to the aforesaid monks in everlasting possession. Wennunwen wishes that the often-mentioned monks may possess the whole of the aforesaid land in all its bounds, fully and completely, freely and quietly, well and in peace and honourably, and without any exaction or secular custom, with everlasting right. And lest this sale should be violated by anyone in future, he has strengthened it both with the impression of his seal and with the attestation of good men. The sale of the moiety took place in 1206, the remaining moiety in the year immediately following.
