Manuscripts

This pack includes information about six iconic manuscripts held at the National Library of Wales:

  • Medieval Astronomy: the oldest scientific manuscript in the Library
  • The Laws of Hywel Dda: native Welsh law
  • The Black Book of Carmarthen: a collection of early Welsh poetry
  • The White Book of Rhydderch: the earliest written copy of the Mabinogi stories
  • The Book of Taliesin: some of the oldest poems in the Welsh language
  • Gutun Owain manuscript: texts about medicine and astrology

The Second World War in Wales (Geoff Charles Photographs)

This book includes photographs of people and events in small towns and rural areas, mostly in mid Wales, during the Second World War. This unique photographic depiction of how people in parts of Wales responded during this era of conflict and change is accompanied by text and interpretation written by The National Library of Wales Education Service.
