Reader's Tickets

Access Information

Access to both Library collections and Subscriptions are dependent on your type of Library membership. For more details on what you can access and how, please see the What can I access page.

How to obtain a Reader's Ticket

  • Anyone over 16 years of age may apply for a reader's ticket. Tickets are valid for a period of 3 years and give readers access to all our collections.

  • Please bear in mind that in order to gain a full reader's ticket you must bring with you 2 proofs of identity, one of them showing your current address.

  • Visitors under 16 years of age can apply to visit some areas of our Reading Rooms under certain restrictions.

Online registration

  • You can register online to start the process of becoming a reader before your visit. This will make it easier and quicker when you visit us in person.

  • You will receive your membership details which you can use straight away to order material from our Catalogue in advance of your visit.

  • Becoming an online member may also provide you with access to the Library's Subscriptions.

Renewing your Reader's Ticket

  • You can renew your full reader's ticket by visiting the Library.
  • Staff in Reception will update your details, take your photograph, and provide you with a new ticket. Please bring your old ticket with you, together with proof of your current address, if this has changed since your previous ticket was issued.

  • At present, you will have to register again when your online ticket expires, and receive a new ticket number.

Changes to the Catalogue

During December, the Library will be changing to a new Catalogue, which will replace the current Catalogue and Full Catalogue.

We would like to notify current users of the Library that there will be some changes that may affect their use of the Catalogue and require further action.
